Your Position: Home - Security & Protection - Choosing the Best Paint for Parking Lots and Roads - JCL Traffic
When it comes to painting parking lots and roads, there are a few things you need to take into consideration. It would be best if you had paint that will last, dry without smearing, resist the elements, and withstand the constant abuse of motor traffic. With so many different types of paint on the market, it can be hard to know which is suitable for your project. To help you out, we've compiled a list of considerations for choosing the best paint for parking lots and roads.
The first step in choosing the best parking lot paint is understanding the available types. There are several categories of paint, each with its unique benefits and drawbacks, so it's important to choose the one that's right for your specific needs.
Water-based paint dries quickly and resists fading from sunlight and other weather elements. Water-based paint is also easy to clean if it splatters or spills. However, water-based paint is less durable than other types, so it may only last for a short time under heavy traffic conditions.
Oil-based paint is more durable than water-based paint, so it can withstand more wear and tear from traffic. Oil-based paint also resists fading and chipping from weather elements better than water-based paint. However, oil-based paint takes longer to dry than water-based paint, so you'll need to plan accordingly. Oil-based paint can be more challenging to clean if it splatters or spills.
Epoxy paint is one of the most durable types, so that it can withstand even the heaviest traffic conditions. Epoxy paint is also resistant to fading, chipping, and other weather damage. However, epoxy paint takes longer to dry than both water-based and oil-based paints—sometimes up to 24 hours—so you'll need to plan your project accordingly. Additionally, epoxy paint can be more challenging to apply than other paints.
Acrylic Paint is the market's most popular type of parking lot paint. It's known for its durability, quick drying time, and resistance to weathering. Acrylic Paint is also easy to apply and can be touch-up if necessary. However, acrylic paint is less resistant to chemicals and abrasion than other parking lot paint.
Urethane paint is another popular option for parking lots. It's known for its high durability and resistance to chemicals and abrasion. Urethane paint is also quick-drying and easy to apply. However, urethane paint does have a few drawbacks. It can be difficult to touch up once applied and is not as resistant to weathering as other parking lot paint.

Like they use on city streets.
Something durable. Since I'm in Southern California, I think there are some regulations on what paint is available for sale but if anyone has a make they like, let me know. I need yellow. Spray paint would be best but open to brush the stuff on if necessary for the stencils at least.
I've got one of those paint stripe things you stick the can in and then roll.
